Pharmacy to Collect Unused Medicines
Suburban Lifestyles – Farmington Hills – November 2007
With the rising concern of prescription drug abuse by teens and recent concerns about the negative effects of improperly disposed medications on the environment, Health Dimensions Compounding Pharmacy has decided to make a difference by initiating a local area drug disposal program. Currently, there is no government program regulating the proper disposal of prescription medications in the state, yet the need is great.
“We want to be a positive driving force in our community to keep it safe for our children, waterways, and wildlife,” said Scott Popyk, Founder and Director of Health Dimensions.
During the week of Nov. 26, the Farmington Hills-based compounding pharmacy will accept unused and expired tablets and capsules during regular business hours from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
All medications collected will be inventoried and then sent to an authorized biohazard disposal facility, where they will be safely incinerated. It is requested that the medications be kept in their original containers for easier identification. Any personal information will be blacked out to protect individual privacy.
This is a free opportunity for area residents to clean out their medicine cabinets, as well as rid their homes of unused and expired medications that can pose a threat to families and their environment.
